APWA AccreditationThe Public Works Department utilizes a skilled, engaged workforce to enhance the quality of life for Charlotte County residents by continually improving infrastructure and providing services in a cost-effective manner to meet the needs of the community.

The Public Works Department builds and maintains roadways, bridges, navigable waterways, stormwater infrastructure, traffic lights and signs, rights-of-ways and landscaping in unincorporated areas of Charlotte County while protecting and preserving the environment.

The Department further provides solid waste management including curbside service and operation of the landfill, manages mosquito and aquatic weed control programs and operates the Indian Spring and Lieutenant Carl Bailey Cemeteries.

The Mid-County Transfer & Recycling Facility, located at 19765 Kenilworth Blvd. in Port Charlotte, will be partially closed starting Tuesday, Aug. 11, for renovations. The facility will only be open for scrap metal, household hazardous waste, sharps (hypodermic needles), waste tires and recyclable item drop-off. The C.A.R.E. ReUse Store will also be closed. Residents are encouraged to use the West Charlotte Mini-Transfer & Recycling Facility, located at 7070 Environmental Way in Englewood. Both facilities are open from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Transfer facilities are self-service. Residents are responsible for unloading all waste and debris. County employees are not permitted to assist with unloading.
