Ben Bailey serves as the Community Development Director for Charlotte County, where he oversees all aspects of land development, including planning, zoning, building services, permitting, code enforcement, contractor licensing, and floodplain management.
Prior to being appointed Director, Ben served as Charlotte County's Building Official for eight years, managing the Building Division, including permitting and contractor licensing. Before joining Charlotte County, he served as the Deputy Building Official for the City of Fort Myers, overseeing the permitting and inspections divisions.
With more than 30 years of experience in the construction and community development industry, Ben has built a successful career in both the private and public sectors. He holds seventeen certifications and licenses in building code administration and enforcement. Ben is a former State Director for the Building Officials Association of Florida (BOAF) and former Chapter Director of the Gulf Coast Building Officials Association. Throughout his career, he has remained actively involved in advancing the building code profession through leadership, education, and professional service.
Ben has been recognized for his contributions to the profession by receiving the Gulf Coast Building Official of the Year Award in 2014 while serving with the City of Fort Myers and again in 2018 while serving Charlotte County.
